Bethany Convent School,(Gujarati Medium)

The Champion School Bethany

Education for the fullness of life

History

Inspired by the visionary legacy of our founder, Servant of God, RFC Mascarenhas, the Bethany Convent school embarked on a journey to provide transformative education to the marginalized communities, empowering them to break free from the shackles of poverty and ignorance.

Bethany Convent School, Gujarati Medium institution, was established in June 2009 in Limboi, Vadgam, Banaskantha district, Gujarat. Sr M Veena Crasta BS was the first Principal, and Sr M Leena Pereira BS served as the Manager. The pioneering teachers were Sr M Loyline BS and Mrs. Laxmi Dabhi.

Located in the Northern part of Gujarat, the school is situated in Limboi village, 5 km away from Vadgam town. The institution began with a humble start, catering to 10 students in a small house, where the sisters resided.

The school serves the local community, comprising predominantly scheduled castes and scheduled tribes who rely on daily wages for their livelihood. The area is also home to people from higher castes, such as Chaudharys, Patels, and Rajputs, who are agriculturalists and economically poor due to their dependence on timely rainfall. Unfortunately, the high-caste people who can afford to pay fees often send their children to city schools catering to their own caste. As a result, only a few students from these communities attend schools like Bethany Convent School.

The school strives to educate less privileged children, primarily from the Adivasi Community living in the Dungari Bhil mountain area. To cater to the needs of students from far-flung villages, the sisters opened the Puspalaya Girls Hostel in 2009. Rev Fr Isidor Alemeida, the then Parish Priest, inaugurated the Adarsh Boys Hostel.

The school was later shifted to the Puspalaya Girls Hostel and subsequently to a new school building, which was inaugurated on October 1, 2013. Currently, the school is situated between Limboi and Rupal villages, surrounded by fields.

In 2017, the school was registered for the SSC Board Examination and received its Index Number 60.545. The first batch of 26 students appeared for the examination and achieved a remarkable 100% result.

Bethany Convent School provides value-based education, founded on the principles of national integration, respect, and appreciation for India’s diverse culture. The school offers various facilities, including:

– Computer and science labs

– Library and audio-visual learning

– Club activities and outdoor and indoor games

Students from the school have participated in various competitions, including district-level science fests, state-level basketball tournaments, Kabbadi tournaments, athletics, Kho Kho and have brought recognition to the school. Additionally, children participate in karate classes, and the school organizes annual science exhibitions, debate competitions, and other extracurricular activities to foster the overall development of the child.

“An education that merely quickens the intellect without training the will in the practice of virtue, may produce scholars but it cannot produce good men and women of virtue.” – SD RFC
